Painless Treatment for Pain
One of the biggest problems with receiving treatment for debilitating joint, muscle and nerve pain – pain that can stop you from exercising or even managing your ordinary daily activities - is that the treatment itself is so painful you sometimes wonder if it is all worth it. However, a local physiotherapist, Mr Arie Michaeli of the Rouxville Joint and Knee Centre, has developed an effective method to treat this kind of pain and it is virtually “pain-free.”
According to Arie Michaeli, who has a MSc degree in Physiotherapy and lectures part-time to qualified Physiotherapists, Chiropractors and Biokineticists, many people give up on their rehabilitation because getting better is just too painful.
Building on his 30 years of experience as a Clinical Physiotherapist, Arie has developed a pain-free treatment concept which is suitable for all people suffering from pain – from professional sportsmen and woman, to the elderly and infirm.

“In the thirty years I’ve been practising as a physiotherapist, I’ve seen hundreds of patients stop treatment because they found it just too painful. The problem with that was that the original problem that caused them to seek medical help got worse. It was a lose-lose situation which many tried to justify with the adage ‘no pain, no gain’.”
In the past few months, he has been touring the country to introduce the concept to Physiotherapists, Biokineticists and Chiropractors, with excellent results.
“Therapists who attended these ‘Joint Muscle Rehabilitation’ lectures and workshops have reported excellent results, including remarkable progress with some of their most difficult patients. In one instance, a patient with chronic low back pain was able to comfortably perform a 90 degree straight leg raise after just one treatment, something she had not been able to do before because it was too painful,” he said. “What excites most therapists, and their patients – apart from the fact that the treatment doesn’t hurt - is that it works quickly. Patients don’t require weeks and weeks of treatment before results are achieved.”
The Physio Joint and Knee Clinic is open from 8.00 – 17.00 Monday to Friday. For appointments or more information kindly contact 011 640 2097, 076 693 7777.

The Physio Joint & Knee Clinic was established by Arie Michaeli MSc (Physio Wits) and has developed a reputation for being at the forefront of the treatment and rehabilitation of knee, spine and other joint pains in the sports and general population.
Our patient approach is holistic: all patients undergo a detailed assessment to assist in establishing the source of the pain, as opposed to the site of pain. This management strategy assists in preventing the recurrence of injury. Patients are empowered to take control of their own conditions through education, and individual specific rehabilitation programmes. We pride ourselves on providing our patients with exceptional service.
Arie graduated from the world-renowned Wingate Institute in Israel. He completed a one-year post-graduate diploma in Manual Therapy there, before immigrating to South Africa in 1985. He obtained his Masters degree, majoring in Orthopaedics, from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1992.
He established Clinical Solutions, a company providing continuing education for healthcare professionals in 1996.
For the past few years, Arie has been involved in the development of a unique and effective concept for the management of Joint-Muscle-Nerve pain. He is currently actively researching the interaction between joints, muscles and nerves. Arie also lectures regularly to Physiotherapists and Biokineticists locally and internationally (see article).
